A Complete Guide to Navigating the National Scholarship Portal (NSP)

The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) is the central hub for most government scholarships in India, from pre-matric schemes to major postgraduate fellowships. However, its interface and strict rules often trip up first-time applicants.

Step 1: Fresh Registration and OTR

Before applying for any scheme, you must complete the One Time Registration (OTR) using your Aadhaar card. Ensure that the name on your Aadhaar matches your academic records exactly. Any discrepancy will lead to immediate rejection.

Step 2: Linking Your Bank Account

This is where 90% of students fail. The government uses Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) via the Aadhaar Payment Bridge System. Your bank account MUST be Aadhaar-seeded and mapped with NPCI. Simply linking Aadhaar to your bank is not enough; you must explicitly submit a mandate for DBT.

Step 3: Uploading Documents

Only upload clear, scanned copies of your original documents. Do not use phone photos with bad lighting. Ensure your income and caste certificates are valid and recently issued by a competent authority like a Tehsildar.

Step 4: Institutional Verification

Submitting the form online is only half the battle. Your application will route to your college or school's nodal officer. You must physically take your original documents to them and ask them to verify your application on their portal dashboard before the deadline.
