Why Was My Scholarship Rejected? Fixing Common Application Errors

Getting a rejection status on the NSP or state portal can be devastating. However, most rejections stem from easily avoidable administrative errors rather than a lack of merit. Here are the top reasons your application might have failed.

1. Aadhaar Biometric Authentication Failure

Recent updates to the NSP require Aadhaar biometric authentication. If you haven't updated your Aadhaar biometrics (fingerprints/iris) since childhood, the verification will fail. Visit an Aadhaar enrollment center immediately to update your biometrics before applying.

2. Bank Account Not Mapped to NPCI

Even if your application is approved, the payment will fail if your bank account is not mapped to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) for receiving Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT). You must visit your bank branch and submit a physical mandate form for Aadhaar seeding and DBT mapping.

3. Expired or Invalid Documents

Uploading an old income certificate or a blurry photo of a caste certificate guarantees a rejection. Verifiers need to easily read the certificate number and issue date. Always use a flatbed scanner or a high-quality scanning app.

4. Pending Institutional Verification

Many students assume that clicking 'Submit' is the final step. It is not. Your application sits in a pending queue until your college or school logs in and verifies it. If your college nodal officer misses the deadline, your application is automatically discarded. Always follow up with your institution.
